Perfect Lighter for my life style
So my colibri lighter recently stopped working after a year and a half. I'm somebody who loves being out doors and even though I don't smoke my lighters do go through a lot of abuse and are heavily used. After losing my colibri I needed a new lighter and started to go on forums and look around for a lighter that could be used in the backcountry and also high altitude environments and I ended up hearing great things about the xikar stratosphere and the warranty support of Xikar as a brand.
Feel
I've actually never felt something like this lighter It feels like a rubber/plastic it is grippy but I think the previous generation of stratosphere may have done a bit better for grip compared to this. But the good thin is the entire lighter is textured on the front where your hand rests there is a nice cube pattern and the top lip flip mechansim is really well placed. I have large hands and the lighter feels good in the hand and doesn't feel to small or too large. The rubbery feel is really nice even when wet. The fit and finish on this thing are real nice nothing feels loose or cheap.
Durability
I can't speak much about the durability but after having bought the lighter I took it with me when going snowshoeing at Garabaldi park. The lighter was dropped once and showed no scuffs. Seeing as I had a second lighter I also wanted to see if this thing could be submerged in water and still light. I found a small stream that hadn't been covered by ice and dropped the lighter in there and left it there for a minute or two. And it still lit, I noticed that xikar has designed it in a way that once the lid closes the small bevel around the igniter forms a somewhat water tight seal. This thing will definitely survive a wet environment which is real nice. The material also makes it feel like you could throw this thing as hard as you wanted and everything would be fine.
What I like
I love the fact that this has a large tank. Really nice to not have to worry about constantly filling up again.
The large fuel window. My last lighter never had one as as a result I kind of had to play the guessing game with this that's not a problem. REally like this feature and don't ever see myself buying another lighter without one.
The adjustable knob at the bottom, I've had lighters where the adjustment knob was super small and adjusting meant having tool with you. This knob just makes it super easy, As I said before I don't plan on buying anything other than a stratosphere.
The blue colour. This is more of a personal thing I really like the deep blue it makes finding the lighter really easy in any environment. I'm kind of tired of having lighters that are painted eventually any anodizing, painting, or polishing wears off. I'm really happy about how this thing will survive in the long run.
The lighter and coil system actually give off a decent amount of light, should a situation ever arise where maybe your light dies you could have some light with this lighter.
cons
This is the only con and at this point I'm nit picking. After having the lighter active and held down for a minute or two the ignitor heats up. This is to be expected but I do wish that maybe this is something that can be fixed in the next model maybe add a bit more material to the handle to make it more heat resistant.
