In 1985 Eumelio Espino Marrero, who was born in Ciego de Avila, Cuba on May 8, 1947,
became the scientific sub-director of the Cuban Tobacco Research Center where he
concentrated on the development of better grades of tobacco.
He has developed five new varieties of tobacco.
